Сочетаемость в английском языке – Глаголы

Тема сочетаемости в любом языке – безконечная. Подчас необъяснимая. И оттого ещё более интересная. Ну вот скажите, почему «молодой человек» у англичан a young man, «молодое поколение» - a younger generation (сравнительную степень заметили?), а какая-нибудь «молодая картошка» - new potatoes? Скажете young potatoes – вас поймут, но сами скажут исключительно new. Почему предприимчивые люди do business для того, чтобы make money, а никак не наоборот?
